The trip

What You're Signing Up For

The same boat and the same four cabins as the two-day trip, with an extra night that changes the shape of it. The second day stops being a race: Padar at first light, then Pink Beach, Komodo Island for the dragons, and both Taka Makassar and Manta Point rather than one or the other.

The third morning is a snorkelling stop at Sebayur or Siaba before you come alongside around midday, which means you can fly home the same afternoon.

Highlights

Why People Pick This One

  • Padar's ridge at first light, before the day boats arrive
  • Dragons on Komodo Island itself, walked with a park ranger
  • Manta Point and the Taka Makassar sandbar on the same day
  • Sunset at Kalong, with the flying foxes leaving the mangroves
  • A last snorkel on the third morning, back alongside by noon

Full description

The Whole Thing

Who This Trip Isn’t For

We would rather talk you out of the wrong trip than take your money for it. If any of these apply, message us and we’ll suggest something that fits better.

Anyone who needs a private bathroom at 3am

The shared cabins share one. Book a cabin grade with its own bathroom if that matters, and it does to more people than admit it.

Very poor sailors

The crossing to Padar is open water and the boat moves at night. There is no getting off until morning.

Guests who cannot manage a ladder

You get in and out of the dinghy by ladder, several times a day, often with a small swell running.

Come prepared

What To Bring

Motion sickness tablets, taken before you sail

Not after. The crossing between the islands is where people regret this, and there is no pharmacy at sea.

Reef-safe sunscreen and a rash vest

You are on the water all day with reflected glare. The rash vest saves your back on the snorkelling stops.

Cash in rupiah for the park fees

The national park entrance is collected separately and is not included in what you pay us.

A dry bag for your phone

The dinghy transfers are wet, every time, and Padar's ridge is a steep climb with your hands full.

Questions About This Trip

Anything not covered here? Message us. We'd rather answer first than have you book the wrong trip.

Is the Komodo National Park fee included?

No, and it is not included by any operator in Labuan Bajo. It is a government fee collected at the park itself, and it changes from time to time, so we will tell you the current amount when you book rather than print a number here that might be wrong by the time you sail.

How do I get to Labuan Bajo?

You fly. It is around an hour and a half from Denpasar and the flights run several times a day. Book the flight after we have confirmed your cabin, not before, and take an afternoon flight home on the last day.

What if the weather turns?

The captain changes the order of the stops, or drops one, and that decision belongs to the harbour master and the captain rather than to us. It is a safety call and it is not refundable, which is standard across every boat here.

Can I dive rather than snorkel?

These trips are snorkelling trips. Diving needs a boat with compressors and a divemaster, which is a different booking. Ask us and we will point you at one.

Why is this better than the two-day trip?

Padar before breakfast rather than in the queue, the dragons on Komodo Island rather than Rinca, and both Taka Makassar and Manta Point instead of choosing. The third morning also lets you fly out the same afternoon without rushing.

Are mantas guaranteed at Manta Point?

No, and be careful of anyone who says otherwise. It is a cleaning station they visit rather than live on. Sightings are common and the crew will tell you honestly what the last few days have been like.
