The trip
The short version of the Komodo trip, on a boat small enough that you will know everyone's name by dinner. La Dyana is twenty-five metres, takes fourteen guests across four cabins, and runs the two-day route: the dragons on Rinca in the afternoon of the first day, then Padar and the pink sand on the second.
You board in Labuan Bajo mid-morning and you are back at the harbour around dusk the following evening. It is one night at sea, which is enough to see whether liveaboards are for you and not enough to get bored of the food.
Highlights
Full description
The boat has a master cabin and a deluxe cabin, both with a double bed and their own bathroom, and two shared cabins of four single beds each. One of the shared cabins has its own bathroom and one does not, which is the entire difference between the two cheapest prices.
Everything on deck is communal: a long dining table under cover, a sundeck with bean bags at the bow, and a canoe you can take out when the boat is at anchor. Meals come out of the galley three times a day and there is fruit and juice in the afternoon.
The first day is the eastern islands, which are close to Labuan Bajo, so there is very little sailing before you are in the water. Rinca in the late afternoon is the dragon walk, done with a park ranger. The boat then moves to Kalong for sunset, when several thousand flying foxes leave the mangroves at once, and stays there overnight.
The second day starts early because Padar is worth doing before the heat, then Pink Beach, then Taka Makassar or Manta Point depending on the tide. You are back in Labuan Bajo in the evening.
Itinerary
Timings are typical, not fixed. Your guide reshapes the day around your pace and the conditions.
Labuan Bajo airport, hotels and harbour
Pickup from the airport, your hotel or the harbour, then boarding and a briefing.
A short climb to a viewpoint over the strait, and the first swim of the trip.
The dragon walk, with a ranger who carries a forked stick and is not being theatrical about it.
Anchored for sunset while thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves. Dinner and the night here.
Up early for the ridge with the three bays. Around forty minutes of steps.
Swimming and snorkelling off the red coral sand.
A sandbar in open water, or the manta cleaning station, depending on the tide.
Alongside around six or seven in the evening, and dropped at your hotel.
The Cabins
Prices are per person for the whole trip. Pick a cabin in the booking box and it works out the total for your group. Every photograph below is of that cabin on this boat.

The price covers
Before you book
We would rather talk you out of the wrong trip than take your money for it. If any of these apply, message us and we’ll suggest something that fits better.
The shared cabins share one. Book a cabin grade with its own bathroom if that matters, and it does to more people than admit it.
The crossing to Padar is open water and the boat moves at night. There is no getting off until morning.
You get in and out of the dinghy by ladder, several times a day, often with a small swell running.
This is a snorkelling boat. There is no compressor and no divemaster on board.
Come prepared
Not after. The crossing between the islands is where people regret this, and there is no pharmacy at sea.
You are on the water all day with reflected glare. The rash vest saves your back on the snorkelling stops.
The national park entrance is collected separately and is not included in what you pay us.
The dinghy transfers are wet, every time, and Padar's ridge is a steep climb with your hands full.

Before you book
Anything not covered here? Message us. We'd rather answer first than have you book the wrong trip.
No, and it is not included by any operator in Labuan Bajo. It is a government fee collected at the park itself, and it changes from time to time, so we will tell you the current amount when you book rather than print a number here that might be wrong by the time you sail.
You fly. It is around an hour and a half from Denpasar and the flights run several times a day. Book the flight after we have confirmed your cabin, not before, and take an afternoon flight home on the last day.
The captain changes the order of the stops, or drops one, and that decision belongs to the harbour master and the captain rather than to us. It is a safety call and it is not refundable, which is standard across every boat here.
These trips are snorkelling trips. Diving needs a boat with compressors and a divemaster, which is a different booking. Ask us and we will point you at one.
One has its own bathroom and one uses the shared bathroom on the same deck. Both hold four people in single beds and both have air conditioning and a window.
It covers the dragons, Padar and the pink beach, which is what most people came for. What you lose against the three-day trip is the second morning of snorkelling and a much less rushed Padar.
