Karangasem is two to three hours from the south, so these trips run nine to twelve hours and start early. What you get for the drive is the quietest temples on the island, the Sidemen valley, terraced water palaces, and a coastline at Amed and Tulamben where the reef and the wreck begin a few metres off the sand.
