The trip

What You're Signing Up For

The best boat on our list, chartered whole. Twenty-six metres by six, which is the widest beam here and the reason she sits so steadily at anchor overnight, with six sea-view cabins and an air-conditioned dining room rather than a table under a tarpaulin.

The two master cabins have a private balcony laid with synthetic grass and a bathtub in the bathroom. On a wooden boat in eastern Indonesia that is close to unheard of.

Highlights

Why People Pick This One

  • The widest, steadiest boat we charter, and the most comfortable
  • Two master cabins with a private balcony and a bathtub
  • A sea view and a water heater in all six cabins
  • An air-conditioned dining room, not a covered deck table
  • Up to fifteen guests on the full-day charter

Full description

The Whole Thing

Who This Trip Isn’t For

We would rather talk you out of the wrong trip than take your money for it. If any of these apply, message us and we’ll suggest something that fits better.

Two people on a budget

You are paying for the whole boat whether you fill it or not. Below about six people the open trips are far better value, and we will say so.

Anyone who cannot be flexible on dates

One boat, one charter at a time. Popular dates in the July to September window go months ahead.

Groups expecting to change the route at sea

The captain and the harbour master decide what is safe on the day. You get the boat, not the weather.

Come prepared

What To Bring

Motion sickness tablets, taken before you sail

Not after. The crossing between the islands is where people regret this, and there is no pharmacy at sea.

Reef-safe sunscreen and a rash vest

You are on the water all day with reflected glare. The rash vest saves your back on the snorkelling stops.

Cash in rupiah for the park fees

The national park entrance is collected separately and is not included in what you pay us.

A dry bag for your phone

The dinghy transfers are wet, every time, and Padar's ridge is a steep climb with your hands full.

One person who makes the decisions

Charters run smoothly when the crew has a single point of contact for meal times and stops, and badly when they have eight.

Questions About This Trip

Anything not covered here? Message us. We'd rather answer first than have you book the wrong trip.

Is the Komodo National Park fee included?

No, and it is not included by any operator in Labuan Bajo. It is a government fee collected at the park itself, and it changes from time to time, so we will tell you the current amount when you book rather than print a number here that might be wrong by the time you sail.

What does 'private' actually mean here?

The whole boat, its cabins and its crew are yours for the dates you book. No other guests are picked up, and the route and the timings are set around your group rather than a fixed schedule.

Do we have to fill every cabin?

No. The price is for the boat, so a party of six on a boat that sleeps sixteen simply has spare cabins. Above the band you book, each additional guest is charged the extra-guest rate.

How do we get to Labuan Bajo?

You fly, around an hour and a half from Denpasar. Book the flights once the boat is confirmed, and leave the return for the afternoon of the last day.

What if the weather turns?

The captain changes the order of the stops or drops one, and that call belongs to the harbour master and the captain. It is a safety decision and it is not refundable, which is standard for every boat in Labuan Bajo.

Can we do the full day without staying aboard?

Yes, and it takes up to fifteen people, which is more than any of the overnight bands. You leave in the morning and are back in Labuan Bajo the same evening, so you sleep in your hotel.
