The Gilis sit off the north-west corner of Lombok, and Trawangan is the one you can sensibly do in a day from Bali: fast boat across in the morning, snorkelling over the turtle grounds, and back the same evening. There are no cars on the island at all - everything moves by bicycle or pony cart.
