What You're Signing Up For

Tanjung Benoa is a sand spit north of Nusa Dua where the reef sits far enough out that the water inside it is flat almost all year. That is why every motorised water sport in Bali ended up there: it is the only stretch of coast reliably calm enough to run them.

It is not wild and it is not remote. It is a well-drilled operation with life jackets, briefings and a lot of engines, and for a family with teenagers it is one of the better afternoons on the island.

The Whole Thing

Tanjung Benoa sits behind a fringing reef that runs several hundred metres offshore, which flattens everything inside it. That is why the entire motorised water sports industry in Bali concentrated on this one spit of sand.

  1. Hotel pickup

    Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Jimbaran, Sanur, Ubud

    Your driver confirms the time the evening before. Mornings are flattest.

  2. Arrive at Tanjung Benoa

    Sign in, life jackets, and a briefing for each activity in turn.

  3. Parasailing

    Towed up behind the boat for a few minutes over the bay. Tandem available.

  4. Banana boat and jet ski

    The banana boat you will fall off. The jet ski runs with an instructor behind you.

  5. Rinse and lunch

    Showers on site, then a warung or one of the beach restaurants. Not included.

  6. Back to your hotel

    Same car, same driver.

Anyone looking for wild nature

This is an engineered strip of operators on a sheltered bay. Enjoyable, and not remote.

Anyone with back or neck problems

Banana boats throw you off and parasail landings can be abrupt.

Anyone pregnant

Most operators will not take you, and they are right not to.

Come prepared

What To Bring

Swimwear worn from the car

You will be in and out of the water all morning and the changing rooms are busy.

A towel and a full change

Salt water, and a drive home afterwards. The operators hire towels but bringing your own is easier.

A waterproof phone pouch

Parasailing and the banana boat both end in the sea. Lockers are provided for everything else.

Reef-safe sunscreen

Several hours in the open on the water. Put it on before you arrive and top it up between activities.

Do we need to swim?

For these three, not really: life jackets throughout and you are attached to a boat. The sea walk and snorkelling are different and we will say so if you add them.

Is it safe for children?

Minimums vary by activity, from about seven for the banana boat. Jet skis usually run tandem with an instructor for under-sixteens. Tell us ages and we will check.

Can we choose different activities?

Yes. The package is the three most people want; swap or add flyboard, sea walk or a glass-bottom boat and we will quote before you go.

How long does it all take?

Two to three hours on the water including waiting between activities. The rest of the time is driving and lunch.

Is it worth it if we have been to Nusa Penida?

Different thing entirely. Penida is scenery and snorkelling; this is engines and adrenaline. Some people love both.
