Bali Zoo is twenty minutes from Ubud at Singapadu, and it is the manageable version of a day with animals. Twelve hectares rather than forty, walkable rather than tram-based, and shaded almost throughout, which matters more than it sounds when you are carrying a tired four-year-old.

The draw for most families is the breakfast with orangutans, which is exactly what it sounds like and books out days ahead. If you want it, tell us early rather than on the morning.

The Whole Thing

Twelve hectares at Singapadu, twenty minutes from Ubud, laid out under mature trees so that most of the walking is in shade. That single detail is why families with small children usually prefer it to the larger park down the road.

  1. Hotel pickup

    Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Jimbaran, Sanur, Ubud

    Your driver confirms the time the evening before. Early if you have booked the orangutan breakfast.

    Twenty minutes from Ubud, about an hour from the south coast.

  3. The zoo

    Two to four hours depending on the age of your group and how many feeding sessions you catch.

  4. Lunch

    Inside the grounds or at a warung on the road back. Not included either way.

  5. Optional afternoon stop

    Celuk silver village or the Ubud market are both on the route home, no extra charge.

  6. Back to your hotel

    Same car, same driver.

Come prepared

What To Bring

Closed shoes

You are on your feet on gravel paths for hours. Sandals are fine until they are not.

Swimwear for the splash area

There is a water play area that children refuse to leave. Bring a towel too.

Sun hat and sunscreen

There is shade under the trees and none at all between them.

Cash for the encounters

Breakfast with orangutans, the elephant wash and the feeding sessions are booked and paid on the day.

Zoo or safari park?

Zoo if your children are under ten or you want a half day. Safari if you want a full day out and the water park. The zoo is closer to Ubud and much easier to walk.

How do we book the orangutan breakfast?

Tell us when you book the trip. It sells out several days ahead in high season and it is a separate ticket we buy on your behalf.

How long do people stay?

Two to four hours. It is genuinely small, which is the point.

Is there shade?

Almost throughout, which is the main practical difference from the safari park in the middle of the day.

Can we add something afterwards?

Yes. Celuk, the Ubud market or Tegallalang are all on the way back and the car is already yours for the day.
