Questions We Get Every Week

Everything guests ask us before they book, in one place. If your question isn't here, message us on WhatsApp. We would much rather answer twenty questions than have you book the wrong trip.

Booking

How far in advance should I book?

For day tours, a day or two is usually fine and we can often do same-day. Liveaboards, and anything in July, August or over Christmas and New Year, fill up three to six weeks ahead. If your dates are fixed, message early.

How do I actually book?

Send us a WhatsApp message with your dates, how many of you there are, and which trip you're interested in. We reply with availability, a written itinerary and a total. Whether a deposit is needed depends on the trip, and we tell you with your quote; liveaboards always take one to hold your cabin. There is no booking form and no account to create.

Do you take same-day bookings?

Often, for land tours and Blue Lagoon. Sunrise treks need at least the previous afternoon so we can brief a guide, and liveaboards need several days. It never hurts to ask.

Can I hold a date without paying?

Whether you can hold a date without paying depends on the trip: some we hold with no payment at all, just tell us the date; others need a deposit to secure it. For liveaboards we hold informally for about 24 hours, then ask for the deposit, because we turn other guests away for the same cabin.

Do you have a minimum group size?

No. Solo travellers are welcome on everything. Land tours are priced per car, so a solo traveller pays the same as four people would, which is why the per-person rate looks higher on your own.

Can you plan several days for us?

Yes, and it's most of what we do. Send us your arrival and departure dates and roughly what you're interested in, and we'll build a plan around them, including days with nothing scheduled.

Payment

How do I pay, and when?

It depends on the trip: some we hold with no deposit and you settle at the end, in cash (IDR or USD) or by transfer; others take a deposit up front. Liveaboards take a deposit to hold your cabin, by bank transfer or a card payment link. You always get the full total in writing before you pay anything.

How big is the deposit?

It depends on the trip: some take no deposit, others a smaller one to secure the date. Liveaboards are usually 50%, because we have to hold a cabin. We'll tell you the exact figure with your quote.

Which currencies do you accept?

Indonesian rupiah and US dollars in cash. Bank transfer in IDR. Card payments by link, which carry a small processing fee we'll show you up front.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. Entrance fees, parking, fuel, water and pickup are in the price unless a trip page explicitly lists them under 'not included'. The common extras are optional: hot springs, jungle swings, beach clubs and lunch.

Should I tip?

It's appreciated and never expected, and it will never be requested. If you'd like to, IDR 100,000–200,000 per day for a driver-guide is generous. On a liveaboard, tips are usually pooled for the crew at the end.

Can I pay in advance for everything?

Yes, if you'd rather not carry cash. Just tell us and we'll send a single link for the full amount.

Changes & Cancellations

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel up to 24 hours in advance and you get a full refund of anything you have paid. Where a trip is held without a deposit, cancelling in time costs you nothing at all. Inside 24 hours we keep the deposit where one was taken, because the guide and car are already committed. Liveaboards are booked with a deposit and have longer windows, which we state in writing when you book.

What if the weather ruins it?

Land tours run rain or shine and we reorder the stops around the showers. If the harbour master closes crossings, or the mountain is closed, you get a free reschedule or a full refund of whatever you've paid. That call is never ours to argue with.

Can I change the date after booking?

Once, free, if you tell us more than 24 hours ahead and we have the same availability. After that it depends on what we've had to commit.

Can I change the itinerary on the day?

Yes, that's the point of a private trip. Swap a stop, stay longer somewhere, cut it short. The only limits are opening hours, tide times and the honest length of the drive.

What if someone in the group gets sick?

Tell your guide. We can drop one person back and continue with the rest, or reschedule if it's the whole group. If you're unwell before the trip, message us as early as you can and we'll be flexible.

On The Day

Where do you pick us up?

Anywhere in Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Kuta, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua at no extra cost. Pickups from Amed, Lovina, Munduk or the far north add a transfer fee, which we quote up front.

How will I know who my driver is?

Your driver messages you the evening before with their name, the vehicle and the exact time. On the morning they wait in the hotel lobby or at the villa gate. If a hotel has a wide entrance, they'll send a photo.

What if we're running late?

Message the driver. A little lateness is fine and they'll wait. On trips with a boat departure or a booked show, being late can cost you the slot, so those we ask you to treat firmly.

Is the car air-conditioned?

Always. Usually an Avanza or Innova for smaller groups, or a Hiace for larger ones. Child seats on request at no charge, just tell us the ages when you book.

Do we pay for the driver's food?

No. Your driver's meals and expenses are our cost, not yours. If you invite them to eat with you they'll usually say yes; there is no obligation either way.

Can we stop for photos wherever we like?

Yes, within reason and traffic law. It's your car for the day.

Suitability & Safety

Do you take families with small children?

Often. We carry child seats on request, keep walks short, and pick snorkel spots with calm shallow entries. Tell us everyone's ages when you message and we'll be honest about which trips suit you and which don't.

I'm not a strong swimmer. Can I still do the sea trips?

Yes. Everyone wears a life jacket, and at Blue Lagoon and Lembongan the water is shallow and calm. Tell the guide and they'll stay with you. Manta Point has current and is better suited to confident swimmers.

Do I need to be fit?

For most trips, no. Mount Batur is the exception at roughly two hours uphill; the jeep tour reaches a similar sunrise with no walking at all. Waterfall days involve a lot of steps. Every trip page states the difficulty.

Do I need a diving certificate?

Not for a discover dive, which takes complete beginners to 12 metres with an instructor beside them. Certified divers should bring their card. Full Open Water certification takes three days and we quote it separately.

Are you insured?

Yes. We're a registered tour operator, vehicles are serviced monthly and insured, guides are licensed, and dive activities are covered by the operator's dive insurance. We strongly recommend you also carry your own travel insurance.

Is it safe to be near the Komodo dragons?

You are always with an armed ranger and you follow their instructions exactly. They are genuinely wild animals and the rangers treat them accordingly. Incidents involving guided groups are extremely rare.

What about seasickness?

The Penida and Komodo crossings can be rough. Take tablets 30–60 minutes before boarding rather than once you feel it. Crews carry ginger tea, and sitting outside at the back of the boat helps more than lying down inside.

Practical Bali

What's the best time of year to visit?

April to October is the dry season: reliable sun, better visibility underwater, and busier everywhere. November to March brings rain, usually as heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day drizzle, plus greener rice fields, fuller waterfalls and half the crowds. Mornings in wet season are often perfectly clear.

What should I wear at temples?

Shoulders and knees covered. A sarong is provided at every temple we visit and is included in the price. Menstruating women are traditionally asked not to enter temple courtyards; nobody checks, but it's worth knowing that the custom exists.

Do I need cash?

Yes, more than you'd expect. Card acceptance is good in Seminyak and patchy everywhere else, and non-existent on the mountain, on the islands and at warungs. ATMs dispense IDR and most have a withdrawal limit around 2.5–3 million.

Is the tap water safe?

No. Drink bottled or filtered water only, and use it for brushing your teeth. We carry drinking water in the car on every trip.

How bad is the traffic?

Worse than the map suggests. Canggu to Ubud can be 90 minutes at the wrong time of day. Our timings already account for it, which is why some pickups look unreasonably early.

What about the visa?

Most nationalities get a visa on arrival, extendable once. Rules change, so check your own government's advice or the Indonesian immigration site before you fly. We can't give visa advice.

Should I rent a scooter?

Honestly, only if you already ride at home and have the right licence and insurance. Bali traffic is not the place to learn, and travel insurance routinely refuses claims where the rider wasn't licensed for a motorcycle.

About Us

Are your trips private?

Land tours and most water activities, yes: your own car, your own guide, your group only. The Komodo 2D1N is an open trip shared with up to twelve guests, and it says so on its page. Everything else can be chartered privately.

Who are the guides?

Bali-based drivers, dive guides and boat crew who grew up on these islands. The same people who plan your day are the ones who pick you up. On Mount Batur, a licensed local trekking guide joins you at the base, which the guide association requires of everyone.

Do you speak English?

Yes, all our guides do. We can usually arrange a guide who speaks Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, Japanese or Dutch with a few days' notice.

What hours are you contactable?

7am to 10pm Bali time (GMT+8) on WhatsApp, seven days a week, including while you're on the trip. Outside those hours we still read messages, we're just slower.

Can you arrange airport transfers and hotels?

Airport transfers, yes. We don't take commission on hotels, so we'll happily recommend places without booking them for you.

Do you do corporate trips or large groups?

Yes. We've run groups up to about forty across multiple vehicles. Send us the numbers and dates and we'll put a plan together.

Still Not Sure?

Message us. We would rather answer twenty questions than have you book the wrong trip, and there is no deposit involved in asking.
